Custom Fitted Mouth Guards
Aside from various treatments and procedures, we also offer custom fitted mouth guards for patients as apart of our preventative care. It is a custom made tray that fits over your teeth to help prevent damage to your teeth and jaw.
Night Guards
Your dental providers will suggest a night guard during your routine exams if they notice increased wear on your tooth surfaces. A high percentage of individuals grind their teeth, known as bruxism, however many do not catch it as it often is done during sleep (although some will catch themselves doing it during daytime as well).
Common signs of teeth grinding include: morning headaches, shoulder/neck/jaw pain, increased tooth sensitivity, loss of fillings, broken or loose teeth, and worn-down tooth surfaces.
Sports Guards
If you or your child engage in high contact sports, a sports guard is often a great idea to prevent your teeth from experiencing any dental emergencies such as broken teeth. If you get hit in the mouth while wearing a sports guard, the mouth guard will help evenly absorb the impact and provide a protective barrier between your teeth and the soft tissues in your mouth.
What to expect for your custom fitting
If you have been recommended to wear a mouth guard, our front desk team will happily assist you in sending a pre-authorization to your insurance to check your coverage along with advise you of any related out of pocket fees.
Once you have chosen to go ahead with scheduling an appointment, your initial visit will be about 30 minutes with the dental assistant to take impressions to help create a custom fit made for you. We will then send your impressions off to our lab associates in which they will create the custom made tray in a material best suited for your needs. Once your customized mouth guard is ready our team will assist you in a second appointment where we will try in your mouth guard to ensure a proper fit as well as provide you with cleaning and maintenance instructions. After that you are good to go home with your newly custom fitted mouth guard! We do suggest bringing your night guard appliances to your dental exam appointments to monitor proper fit in case your teeth have started shifting.
