Dentistry with Sedation

For many patients, it is common to feel nervous or apprehensive about dental treatment. Dr. Syed, Dr. Lee or Dr. Chong is trained to help you with your anxiety by explaining different options to make you more comfortable.

What types of sedation are available?

Once an assessment is made, Drs. Syed, Lee or Chong may suggest taking an oral medication prior to your appointment, the use of nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) or IV sedation. Drs. Syed, Lee or Chong is trained in the administration of all these options.

How safe is sedation?

During a sedation procedure the patient is continuously monitored by a Registered Nurse with various types of equipment, ranging from an automatic blood pressure cuff to pulse oximeter. Our professional team is trained to handle any foreseeable emergency. Following a sedation procedure, you will have to have a responsible adult drive you home and care for you for a predetermined amount of time.

What type of treatment can be done with sedation?

We can perform any general dentistry procedure in-office with sedation as well as surgical procedures like tooth extractions, implants and periodontal grafting.

What are the main advantages to being sedated?

  • Treatment is completed when you are in a more relaxed mood.
  • You will have less difficulty sitting through a lengthy procedure.
  • Multiple treatments and full mouth restorations can occur at during the same visit.
  • Less discomfort after treatment.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is also a great option for the elderly, the disabled, or simply- the fearful!

Sedation Dentistry for the Elderly
As we age, our oral health becomes more important than ever. Periodontal disease can lead to bone and tooth loss, which affects nearly every part of our daily lives. To lead full and active lives, we need our teeth and gums. They allow us enjoy food, support speech and good conversation, and facilitate digestion. Drs. Syed, Lee or Chong is dedicated to treating elderly patients with care and commitment to comfort and health.

Elderly patients as a group tend to avoid dental visits for a variety of reasons, including: more pressing medical concerns, anxiety about treatment, the hardship of transportation, or fixed incomes.
